Phoenix the puppy is easy to handle and has a sunny personality like the city he is named after. He was born in June 2021,weighs about 40 lbs and is growing every day. Like most boys named Phoenix, he’s pretty cool and knows how to have fun. He is calm and has become quite the cuddle bug. He bays when he’s excited and doing excellent with his training. His recall is perfect! He’s a gentle soul. His mama is a Great Pyr, but he’s all Treeing Walker Hound.

He will need obedience training as he gets older and mature. There is a lot for a puppy to learn and like all small puppies, he will need someone who can be home with him a lot and provide him with love, patience, and boundaries to help him become a loyal companion. He loves the companionship of other animals and requires another dog in the home to act as his mentor as he continues to understand the rules of his new world. He’d be great for going along on hikes and trail rides, and cuddling in a tent at night…or for just for hanging out with the family.

Here’s what he says about himself--

My favorite thing to eat: I love it when I get a piece of zucchini or apple from the garden!

My favorite thing to play with: crinkly toys.

My funniest quirk: I am very independent when I’m awake, but when I’m falling asleep, I like to have my head on someone and be petted.

What I get in trouble for: I haven’t gotten in trouble for anything yet, but my foster mom watches me closely when the baby chickens are out.

What I dislike the most: I love life!

What makes me unique: I am bigger than my sisters, but I’m a great cuddler!

Where do I sleep: I sleep in a big soft kiddie pool bed in the family room with my sisters, watched over by my big foster brother and sister. Sometimes I nap with my foster mama.

Do I love car rides: I don’t mind the car. I like to look out the window and see what’s going on.

Where’s my favorite place to go: I love playing in our big back yard with the family and the other dogs.

Do I like cats: I ignore the cats that live in my house. I also ignore Grandma’s old dogs who are littler than me.

How I feel about my crate: I don’t sleep in a crate. I stay in my big playpen when my family is very busy and is a lot of fun if I have my dog friends and some toys to play with.

ADOPT HERE: Complete an Adoption Application for your Pyr-fect new family companion at https://gprs.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=6206.

PUPPIES ARE ONLY PLACED IN HOMES WITH YOUTHFUL, PLAYFUL RESIDENT DOGS WHO ARE AT LEAST 50 POUNDS.

Our requirements for puppy adoptions are simple and necessary.

  1. Our puppies are not livestock guardians, they are family pets that live inside of the family home.
  2. Puppies must be placed in homes with a youthful, adult resident dog of similar size. This gives the puppy a mentor and a solid foundation for becoming part of the family.
  3. Puppies are only adopted to homes with someone at home at least part of the day. If no one is home for 6-8 hours at a time, please do not apply.
  4. Preference is always given to those with Great Pyrenees experience.
  5. Applicants must have secure, visible fencing and a socialization plan in place.
  6. The fastest way to be considered for a puppy is to fill out an application. Adoption is not first come, first served. GPRS and its fosters work diligently to find the right fit for each and every unique dog and puppy.
  7. Applicant’s personal pets must be current on vaccines & heartworm/flea prevention and be altered.

Adoption fee: $450 (Adoption fee includes spay or neuter, distemper/parvo shot, flea preventative, deworming, and health certificate for travel.) Adopters outside of Texas pay the cost of transport to independent transport service ($225).

GPRS has proudly placed thousands of Great Pyrenees and GP mixes in the PNW for over a decade. Our volunteers have over 100 years combined experience fostering, screening, and placing this majestic breed into loving, forever homes. When adopting from us, you can rest assured that we provide life-long support and advice when it comes to your new family member. As always, our purpose is to find the best match for every unique dog that comes through our doors. Taking the time to find the right fit comes first and foremost at the Great Pyrenees Rescue Society. If you are interested in adopting, please take the time, and apply. You will see firsthand how much care, attention and love goes into the process, when you are guided a personal screener. This is why we have people come back again and again for their next family member! See all our dogs, fill out an application and discover why we are the BEST at placing the right dog in the right home! https://gprs.rescuegroups.org/.

ADOPTION, FOSTERING, AND DONATIONS are just some of the ways you can help a rescued dog. We have worked hard to cultivate a large network of volunteers to save this majestic breed. While monetary donations are always much appreciated, you can also help by donating your time as a GPRS foster or volunteer.
